Darwin’s proposed Theory of Evolution, was an attempt to explain the development of species. The idea of natural selection, that the strong survive and the weak die off, has been integrated into the modern understanding of biology, but the organic world is not the only place where this survival of the fittest takes place. Quite the contrary: natural selection dominates the online business realm as well. However, while circumventing biology can be nearly impossible, utilizing the online marketplace to stay on top does not have to be as difficult.

Understanding how to survive is the key. While companies around the world launch websites, only a select few make it to the big time. These company websites receive millions of hits and show up front and center on major search engines. In fact, being featured on the front page of a Google search results list is the best way to stay ahead of electronic natural selection. That task, however, is easier said than done.

Traditionally, internet searches have displayed results through a ranking system. This system worked by examining the content of the page and rating its overall relevance to the search being performed. The search engine would then present the designated sites by their rank. There are certain drawbacks to such a straightforward approach, though, since this type of ranking only utilizes standard websites. In order to create a more comprehensive search experience, Google drastically revamped its searching capabilities in 2007 with the concept of Universal Search.

When opening up searches, Universal Search includes blended results listed by comparative ranking. Comparative ranking works similarly to traditional ranking, by analyzing the content and determining its relevancy to the search being performed. However, comparative ranking takes the process a step further, weighing websites alongside other online mediums, such as photos, videos, blogs, press releases and more. This goes hand in hand with blending, which provides search results for the full gamut of online mediums cohesively on a single page.

In this way, Google’s Universal Search has changed the way online prowess must be achieved. Now, companies and website developers must utilize a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) 2.0 approach, focusing not only on content with keyword rich copy, but also optimizing all of their digital media, thus showing they are the best “fit” with a strong, multimedia approach. By incorporating rich media like images and video, websites can increase their comparative ranking, being strong enough to overpower a greater variety of sources.

Search Engine Optimizers must diversify into a number of areas they may not have considered before.

* Blogs mentioning your website can now be used as marketing tools to drive traffic.
* Press releases are listed in the blended news results; used properly, this can be one of your most effective tools. News is ranked chronologically as well as by relevance; by keeping your website prominently featured through regular press releases, you can optimize your search engine results.
* Images are more important than ever before, and tagging them correctly ensures your site gets the proper recognition.
* Including your company website in local online directories gives you one more way to improve corporate visibility.

It is important to understand that the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) 2.0 approach is the only way to achieve internet dominance, ensuring online business survival at all costs.

For anyone who is doing business on the web there is no doubt you’ve been hearing about Microsoft’s latest search engine release called Bing. Bing promises a new user experience for those surfing the web. This is a pretty necessary rework of Microsoft’s previous search in an effort to compete with both Google and Yahoo. Today, there is more press coverage that is covering this launch as Microsoft is seeking to make radical changes to their business model.

You might be asking yourself, what does Bing mean for my website and how can I ensure that my web site is found? I have been receiving a number of inquiries from individuals who are truly concerned about the impact a new algorithm will have on their website’s search results. I have begun to research Bing as a search engine and found out that much of it’s methodology for ranking is similar to that of Google.

When looking at top ranked websites, an in depth analysis can be done to see which factors vary between top results. A recent comparison that I viewed showed that the number one ranking website on Bing was able to keep a leg up on the competition by having an older domain age, and having inbound links from websites that included the primary keyword in the referring sites title tag. In short, the top web site was successful in building inbound links from other SEO sites and directories as opposed to being from unrelated websites.

After just a little research, it’s clear that Bing is using criteria such as in bound linking to evaluate the appropriateness of a given site related to a search term. Consistent with other search enginealgorithms in bound linking shows which sites are popular and worth of top rankings. Focus your SEO efforts on link building to do well in Google and other search engines like Bing.

Organic search should be at the top of your list. If it is then you know where you need to focus, inbound linking. If you haven’t gotten on the organic rankings band wagon, then start with on page optimization. Once your site is formatted appropriately, start with off page optimization and link building.

In addition to focusing on the before mentioned items for influencing search results on Bing and other search engine, consider the value of content. Having fresh content on your site that is engaging and current matters a good deal to search engines seeking to find the most relevant and meaningful content. Keep your eye on developing quality content and updating it on a regular basis.

You might be wondering which search engine you should be optimizing your web site for. Based on what I’ve seen, I’m encouraged by preliminary Bing related findings. I believe that Bing is using many of the same factors that Google uses to evaluate a sites relevance to a search query. As always, focus on white hat methods to optimize your site and follow search engine optimization basics.

twitter

twitter

” One of the most popular activities on the microblogging service Twitter is sharing links. However, this activity is also one of the most dangerous, too. Ever since Twitter gained in popularity, hackers and spammers have been using the service to direct traffic to their unsavory websites. For the end user, clicking on those bad links could result in, at best, an annoyance as they’re directed to some spammy website or, at worst, a full-on malware attack on their PC.”  Read full story here…

Some of my own sites unfortunately have been infected with such bad stuff like  malicious PHP code and as a result been declared malicious URLs by Twitter and Google as well last week.

To avoid any more blocking I’m moving them to a new server right now. No fun at all, but it seems to be fastest way to get rid of  this hacker B.S, the Twitter/Google penalty and to get the sites back into good standing again….

Hope this Twitter Filtering  helps prevent such money and time consuming bad experience for others….

I will keep you updated what happened to my sites after moving and what Google / Twitter said soon…

A week ago I started testing Chris Langs new Twitter Tool, which is part of his Google Friend Connect membership site: If you do not know Chris yet you better  should. The guy is the Top resource for Google social tools like Google Friend Connect, Reader, and YouTube. Here’s a great interview SEO legend Jack  Connecting-The-Dots Humphrey did with Chris last week on the Friday Traffic report !

So I checked Chris secret on increasing Twitter followers and I’m blown away by the results. Now see fo ryourself  what’s happened to my numbers in the last week:

My Twitter followers count has gone up from 2705 to over 4300 followers.

increase twitter following

Except entering my name into the system and tweeting as usual I did nothing. Interesting to see the little break where my twitter followers growth count got stuck: I was not tweeting. So did not create attention…  Could be good proof of the quality this White-Hat SEO Software offers.

(Well as with any kind a tools like this: Do not over Do THIS…)

As Jack Humphrey recommends: “I’m listening to this guy. You should too! His Twitter tactic is covered on the following page as well.  On this page you won’t see a fancy suit, a Beamer, or any tell tale signs of a slick marketing guru. Chris is a straight up geek. The gurus are months behind ripping him off and selling his ideas as their own..

So wanna meet inside the restaurant enjoying a meal of traffic, rankings, and popularity? For warmly welcoming the Guru’s check out Chris Langs Googling Social.
